I’m pleased to announce that there is a new little area dedicated to showing off the local talent at the store.  In addition to the lovely items mentioned above, you’ll also find the handmade dolls and felt banners by Autumn (patterns available), the bubble skirt by Shelly (pattern), and the Farmers Market Tote by Sally (patterns should be back in stock soon).

As if that weren’t enough, there are three, yes, not just one or two, but three books out currently by Portland creative authors and they are all available at the store: Bend-the-Rules-Sewing by Amy Karol, Stitched in Time by Alicia Paulson and Button It Up by Susan Beal.  We’re so lucky here in Portland.

We still have space in some of our upcoming classes, so be sure to check the classes page and give us a call if you’d like to sign up.  As usual, there are new fabrics arriving throughout the week, check in regularly to see what the latest is.  We have a couple of tricks up our sleeves that we’ll be telling you all about in just a little bit…stay tuned!

Mom’s day is right around the corner!  It’s time to bust out the sewn goodies.  Quick ideas for last minute homemade gifts: simple tote or shoulder bag (how about Farmers’ Market Tote or Swing Bag?), cloth napkins (everyone could always use more of these), apron (we have a whole lot of patterns, books, ideas, samples), tablecloth–think of something fun and colorful for all those outdoor parties!  Of course, we also offer gift certificates and have a great book selection. 

Alberta Street will be celebrating the work of artist Thelma Johnson Streat on Saturday, May 16th during the 10th annual Art Hop.  There will be all sorts of festivities on the street.  We will be offering a 10% discount on all books for the day.  A little fyi–much of the street will be closed to car traffic.  Come on out and enjoy the day with us!

We have added a collection of classes that are from Heather Ross’s new book, Weekend Sewing. We have found this book to have so many great projects in it that we decided to offer a group of them as classes. Purchase of the book is required and we are confident that you too will enjoy so many of these projects (over 40 avaiable) that it will be worth the extra few dollars–the same amount as two to three individual patterns. We make a note after the class description of all classes from this book.

Father’s Day is right around the corner and we’ve got you covered! We are a few different classes that are great for dad gifts. They include the new necktie, the zippered travel bag from the aforementioned Weekend Sewing, and the ever-fabulous, returning Freezer Paper Stencil class. Make the Dad(s) in your life some new, one-of-a-kind t-shirts with your newly acquired stenciling skills.

We will have supply lists on hand at the store in the next few days (some are already available). Samples will also be filing into the store over the next couple of weeks. Please refer to our class policy (in the classes section of this here site) if you have any questions about skill level, payment, supplies needed (you do need to bring a sewing machine with you for all sewing classes), etc. Class cost is for instruction unless it is noted that a supply fee is included. Students receive a 10% discount on all supplies.
