Beginning Sewing: The Everyday Tote

This class is a chance for absolute beginners (no previous sewing experience required!) to dive in, learn to navigate a sewing machine and come out with a useful finished product in 3 hours. In this class students will make the perfect lined grocery tote with an interior pocket!

In this class, you will learn:

  • How to operate a sewing machine.

  • How to sew a straight seam.

  • How to make and attach a patch pocket.

  • How to make a basic box corner.

  • How to make a double fold hem.

Materials list:  

  • 1/2 yard sturdy, non-stretch, woven fabric for the outside of the bag (such as non-stretch denim or canvas)

  • 1/2 yard light, non-stretch, woven fabric for lining (quilting cotton, double gauze, etc) Please pre-wash all fabric according to manufacturer’s instructions.

  • 2 yards webbing

  • Matching thread

*Materials and supplies are NOT included in the price of the class. All materials are available to purchase at Bolt Fabric, either in store or online. Students will receive 10% off of supplies purchased at Bolt Fabric and enjoy 10% off purchases made the day of class. Please purchase supplies in advance of the class, as it is necessary to pre-wash fabric to manufacturer’s specifications.
