Handstitching Primer

  • Bolt Neighborhood Fabric Boutique 4636 Northeast 42nd Avenue, Ste C Portland, OR, 97218 United States (map)

$34 + $6 materials fee

Every sewist needs to know some basics of sewing by hand. Hand sewing gives you maximum accuracy and control and, in some cases, is preferred to a machine stitch. In this class, taught by local custom dressmaker and teacher Marla Kazell, students will learn what kind of stitch to use for:

  • basting

  • marking construction lines

  • hemming

  • making invisible stitches or

  • sewing on a button

Sample garments will show you how, when and where to use different stitches. Practice a few basic stitches in class and take home your samples for reference.

Ticket price includes all the materials and supplies that will be used in class.

** Please note that classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Learn more about this and all our policies here.
