The Gypsum Skirt: Intro to Sewing from a Pattern


This class meets 4 times. Wednesday April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 8th.

Now that you’ve learned some basic sewing skills, learn how to sew a garment using a pattern. We will make a skirt, using the Gypsum Skirt Pattern from Sew Liberated.

In this class students will learn:

  • How to read a pattern, measure for correct size and make simple adjustments for fit.

  • Proper layout, marking and cutting of fabric.

  • How to sew a garment from start to finish.

You will come to class a hopeful novice and leave a mad-skilled maker of a skirt that you can proudly wear and show off to the world!

Supply List:

  • Sew Liberated Gypsum Skirt Pattern

  • Lightweight woven fabric (please pre-wash according to fabric instructions!!!) in yardage required for desired size (rayon challis, tencel twill, silk noil, lightweight linen, double gauze, or cotton ikat are great options depending on which pattern option student chooses.) Please pre-wash fabric according to manufacturer’s instructions.

  • 2” Waistband Elastic, enough to wrap around waist + 1-2 inches

  • Matching thread

Materials and supplies are NOT included in the price of the class. All materials are available to purchase at Bolt, either in store or online. Students will receive 10% off of supplies purchased at Bolt. Please purchase supplies in advance of the class, as it is necessary to pre-wash fabric to achieve desired fit.
