The Fen Dress: Intro to Sewing from a Pattern

This class meets 3 times. Saturday May 4th, May 11th, and May 18th.

Learn to follow a pattern and make this Fen Dress from Fancy Tiger Crafts for summer! This versatile dress is perfect for casual fun. It can be made in a variety of fabrics and is perfect for layering with tights and a sweater in the cooler months. This class is for beginning sewists who have used a sewing machine before (know the basics of threading the machine and winding a bobbin) and are ready to learn how to read, follow, and sew from a pattern. We’ll be using woven fabric for this beginning project.

Students will learn:

  • How to read a pattern and proper layout.

  • Finishing techniques for the arm and neck openings.

  • How to hem a garment.

  • Simple techniques for varying a garment's length.

You will leave class with a beautiful dress handmade from start to finish by you, the skills to read and sew from a pattern, and the ability and confidence to start creating your own me-made wardrobe!

Supply List:

  • Fancy Tiger Crafts Fen Pattern: We’ll be working with the dress on this pattern: View B.
