Knowing how to alter our clothing opens a world of practical and creative options. This workshop will cover basic alteration processes and techniques so that you can extend the life of a favorite wardrobe piece or a thrifted or vintage find.
In this class students will learn what elements of garment construction to look for whether the goal is alteration or reimagining. Instructor Shere Coleman will cover the basic elements of shape and drape along with construction techniques. She will also offer suggestions about how to reduce fast-fashion’s impact on the landfill.
Students will work in pairs to work on fit and reimagining their garment. Sign up with a friend and learn how to remake your wardrobe together!
A thrifted, vintage, or beloved top or blouse that you would like to reimagine or recreate! (please wear a cami/undershirt, so that you can try on and remove your blouse as you work on it)
That’s it! Students will leave class with a reimagined garment, and a hand-out of alteration terms and techniques.
