Little Bags a Couple Ways with Lupine

Thursday, 10/8, 6:30-9:00 pm

You have seen them.  Simple little cotton, linen, canvas bags are everywhere.  The grocery has them to store snack food instead of plastic.  The farmer's market sells them to hold produce, and the gift store has them instead of wrapping paper.  You need not buy them here and there when you could make them yourself.  We will take a look at a simple bag and talk about fabric for food vs. gift and drawstrings vs. velcro.  A two hour class that could serve all your holiday wrapping, school lunch, and grocery store shopping needs while saving the environment by making re-useable fabric bags.  No pattern needed, simple instructions and tips in class.

English Paper Piecing with Amy

Monday, 10/19, 6:30-8:30 pm
If you already enjoy hand-sewing or you would like to work on your hand-sewing skills, consider this one-night class on English Paper Piecing.  By basting fabric to pre-cut shapes, sewing the shapes together, and finally removing the papers, you can achieve very precise patchwork designs without the anxiety of perfect seam allowances!  This technique requires very little investment in materials and is a superb way to use fabric scraps.  In this class we will be working with hexagons, the basic unit used in traditional "grandmother's flower garden" quilts, but once you learn the techniques involved, there are many other shapes and patterns to explore.  You will leave class w/ a patchwork hexagon "flower" which can be used as an applique, turned into a coaster, or maybe it will be the beginning of your own heirloom quilt.  See some examples by a couple of local greats here and here!  If you can thread a needle, and have done some very basic hand sewing, you are ready for this!
