Weekend Project: Finished! A Woodland Quilt
This is the sort of quilt top that goes together in a weekend (or maybe just an afternoon, if you have that sort of uninterrupted time!). The pattern is published by Blue Underground Studios and is called "Posh Tots". I used Monaluna's Woodland Friends (organic cotton from Birch Fabrics Circa 50 line) and combined it with solids and dots and it's backed with two prints from Hoodie's Collection from Blank quilting. Gayle Karol of Tillie Studios did the long arm quilting in an all over design called "Knotty". I've got to say, I love, love, love having the quilting done by someone else. I'm slowly plugging away at some hand quilting at the moment, and usually try to wrestle my quilts through my own machine. I really do like doing it on my own, but it is a pleasure to turn something over to someone so capable.
This sort of quilt pattern is great for beginners or experienced quilters who what to get something turned out quickly. I made a throw size (approx. 50" by 70"), but the pattern has measurements from crib to king. You get to practice colour and value distribution in block design and getting everything lined up correctly in the block construction. There are a lot of beautiful all over prints-- large florals, novelties, even Marimekko, that would make beautiful background pieces, paired with much simpler solids or smaller scale prints. This is the sort of pattern that can turn out hundreds of original looking quilts.
