Wildcraft Studio School

If the lovely weather has got you making summer plans, I want to make sure you take a look at Wildcraft Studio School’s schedule before your calendar fills up. If you haven’t read about them on our blog or seen their posters up around town, Wildcraft is located in White Salmon, WA, about 90 minutes east of Portland. They offer a diverse roster of classes ranging from perfumery to kiln building to shoe making with a special focus on natural materials, sustainability, and heritage skills.

Frame Loom WeavingHere at the store we are especially jazzed about their many textile-related offerings. Chelsea Heffner, the founder of Wildcraft, has pulled together a super group of textile artists to share their skills with local students.

Block Printing

There are a couple of classes coming up that textile lovers should know about. The first round of Block Printed Textiles sold out, but there’s still room in the class being offered this Sunday (I’ll be there! Let me know if you will be, too). Desert Dye Plants of the Columbia Gorge is two days of foraging and dyeing in the arid eastern end of the Gorge. The Backstrap Loom class will introduce you to an ancient fabric making technique still used across the world. If you’re interested in indigo dyeing, Wildcraft has you covered with both Katazome and Shibori workshops later in the season.

Backstrop Loom: Traditional Weaving

This is just a small sampling of their classes, so take some time to look over their calendar. It doesn’t get much better than learning about textiles in the beautiful Columbia Gorge. Any classes piqueing your interest?
