Jalie Patterns

by Cameron

Have you sewn with Jalie Patterns? If you have, you know what a pleasure they are to work with. If you haven't, I'd like to recommend you give them a try. If you're like me and you enjoy sewing things that you know you'll wear, that you'd have to buy if you couldn't make them, you're going to be really excited about Jalie's patterns.

Founder, Jeanne, working on a pattern

Jalie is now one of the elder statesmen of independent pattern companies, and their years of experience really show. They have a huge catalog of patterns, with a wide selection of basics like t-shirts, jeans, and underwear - along with harder to find garments. The founder and designer, Jeanne, specializes in high stretch knitwear and tackles patterns for everything from everyday athletic wear to gymnastics leotards and catsuits.

The patterns themselves are top notch. The instructions are great, and the value just cannot be beat. Jalie will often give you a size range from child to adult and many patterns include both men's and women's sizes. With just a handful of Jalie patterns, you could outfit your entire family for years and years. For example, many customers swear by their stretch jeans pattern (Jalie 2908) and have made them over and over again.

Their new website is great - lovely and easy to use. Jeanne and her daughter Emilie have put hours and hours of work into creating video tutorials and other helpful guides to help you tackle some of the more advanced techniques in their patterns. For inspiration, you can browse finished garments by other home sewists. I especially like reading about the company's history.

If you see a Jalie pattern you're interested in that we don't carry, ask us about a special order. And we'd love to help you pick out just the right knit fabric to make those basics you've been waiting to tackle. Myself, I can't wait to get started on a pair of leggings using Jalie 2920 with some of the lovely knits we've been getting in over the last couple of weeks.
