Neighborhood Spotlight: Miss Zumstein's Bakery and Coffee Shop

If you’re looking for a special occasion cake, look no further. Anja’s cakes are amazing. Seriously.

With our hop over to 42nd Avenue this winter, we have had the opportunity to settle into new routines, including exploring the neighboring businesses. We are feeling quite at home here and in large part due to the fabulousness of all that makes up Miss Zumstein’s! The crew, fellow customers, and of course the food and drink are all delightful. It’s one of those places that exudes contentedness. There’s a lot to be said for that. It’s mellow and welcoming.

My kiddo and I pop over there some weekends for a little time to draw, stitch, and just relax with a sweet treat.

I dream of their breakfast burrito sometimes and get out the door a little extra early some days so I can be sure to have time to get one before opening up the store. It’s so good. We keep a bottle of their house-made hot sauce in the shop fidge for spicing things up. They have started offering sandwiches at lunch time. They keep it simple and delicious. I have become somewhat addicted to their turkey and cheddar with fresh, spring greens, sometimes apple or pear slices, all on a fresh roll!

And the sweets….well, they are a bakery after all. They are amazing. The flourless chocolate cake can not be beat for those times you really need to satisfy your chocolate craving. The cowgirl cookie lets you feel like you’re having more like a granola bar, with its dried apricots, oats and nuts. Get there early and enjoy a muffin still warm from the oven. Is it obvious I love these guys? So, next time you’re on the street, stop in and treat yourself!
