Fitting Basic Pants using Modern Sewing Co. Worker Trouser

  • Bolt Studio 4928 B NE 29th Avenue Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Four Thursdays, May 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
6:00pm - 8:00pm
Level 3: You are confident sewing simple garments and can use a commercial apparel pattern

If you’ve ever struggled with sewing a well fitting pair of pants, this is the class for you. This intermediate level class focuses on fitting a pants pattern and learning fitting principles. We will work with a basic pattern to make modifications that fit your figure. We will create a slacks pattern block from the alterations we make to the pattern. The adjusted block can be used to fix the fit of other pants patterns and sewing projects in the future.

In class the focus is on the theory of fitting, the fit of your muslins, and the alterations on the pattern. You should be comfortable with sewing muslins under your own guidance. You will walk away with the knowledge of how to use the fitted pattern to adjust other patterns for your future projects.....

The first class covers measurements and how to find your size in the pattern. All cutting and sewing of muslins will be part of the homework at home, or during studio time at Bolt’s Open Studio Wednesdays or Friday Creative Community nights. Bull Denim and a zipper for the first muslin are part of the class fee.

In the second and third weeks we will Fit the muslins as a group so students can learn about different adjustments that could be made, and apply the changes to the patterns. Week 4 will cover finalizing the pattern on fresh paper by adding in the seam allowances and preparing it for future use.
