October Mending: Duplicate Stitch

  • Bolt Studio 4928 B Northeast 29th Avenue Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Sunday, October 4th
10:00am to 1:00pm
Level 0

Got a pile of clothes in need of mending but not sure where to start? Mending is one of the best ways to make your wardrobe more sustainable and make your favorite clothes last longer.

In this class, you’ll learn how to do a classic duplicate stitch. Duplicate stitch looks like knitting, but it is not knitting and you do not need to know how to knit to learn duplicate stitch. You can use it mend a hole, re-enforce a thin spot or cover a stain with a design. With some practice, it is a technique for doing invisible mends.

Duplicate stitch does take a bit more practice and focus than other darning techniques, so we will begin with practice swatches. Practice swatches will be provided, and students are encouraged to experiment before darning their own items. You do not need to bring anything to mend, but you are welcome to do so.

Taught by Daniela Steiner.
