Gift Ideas - Scarves
A couple of months ago we put the call out for a new team member. We were so fortunate to have an amazing group of people express their interest. One of these amazing folks is Cameron, our latest hire. She has stepped into the workings around the store beautifully—graciously helping our customers and efficiently tackling other little details that keep the store running. Say hi next time you’re in, and you can read more about Cameron in her bio on the blog and the website…it’s a good read. Welcome Cameron!
It’s that time again – time to start ignoring holiday displays in Fred Meyers and tuning out Christmas carols. In general, I’m as eager as the next person to hold off on holiday preparations until at least December 1, if not later, but as a maker of things I know it’s time to start thinking about gifts in order to avoid the last minute, sugar-fueled Christmas Eve sweatshop.
Fortunately, I spend a lot of time around beautiful materials and creative people, so I already have ideas for most of the people on my list. First up, a quick, simple scarf for my mom. One fabric in particular has been on my mind since my first day working at Bolt in September – a beautiful silk cotton blend with a blue chicken print. Perfect for my mom who loves bold colors and funky prints.
A yard of fabric and a couple of hours later, I had the perfect silky scarf. I just chopped my yard in half length-wise to get two 18”x 45” pieces. I sewed them together with a French seam in the center and finished with a delicate 1/8” rolled hem all the way around.
If funky blue chickens won’t quite do it for everyone on your list, we have plenty of other lovely fabrics that would make gorgeous, simple scarves that you could whip up in just a few hours.
A knock out tweedy wool, perfect for an pipe smoking, moor wandering loved ones.
This royal blue cotton sweater knit would make a beautiful no-knit lace scarf.
We’ve got your plaid lovers covered too! A small selection of our plaid options from left to right - a bright 100% cotton Robert Kaufman Mammoth Flannel, a classic wool-cotton blend, and a understated 100% cotton flannel plaid.
A cozy, deep purple wool-nylon sweater knit, and a light and airy mauve silk.
It was hard narrowing down just a few fabrics to share here. Come on in and we can help you explore all your options!
