Mini Poppy with Liberty Yoke

—by Heather

Continuing with our unofficial series on how to get the most out of small cuts of special fabrics like Liberty of London, I wanted to share this Mini Poppy dress I made for my daughter last month using a fat eight for the yoke.

You may remember Gina’s adult version of this tunic/dress. Despite having some construction techniques that I found slightly inefficient, I would make this again. It really turns out a cute garment. And when you add a distinctive fabric to the accent pieces it becomes quite special.

I was originally planning to use the Liberty only on the yoke and omit the contrast band at the bottom but my daughter insisted on the the dress having it so I grabbed another fat eighth for that. In the end I could have just cut a quarter yard from the tube, but fat eights did the trick as well.

Check out some other nice uses for small bits of Liberty here and here. And stay tuned for a visit from Amy who may share what she’s up to using Liberty scraps.
