Caravan Tote and Pouch

By Cameron

So many of you have been bringing in such lovely bags and raving about your favorite Noodlehead pattern you just can't stop making that I had to give one a try. The Caravan Tote and Pouch is one of Anna Graham's more recent releases, designed with knitters in mind. The pattern features oodles of pockets with optional needle sleeves and yarn guides and of course her trademark classic look and thoughtful finishing touches.

Even though I love to knit, I opted to leave out all of the optional knitting specific bells and whistles, as well as the front zip pocket. My simplified tote still has plenty of pockets with a slip pocket in the lining and a snap pocket on the outside.

I didn't make any changes to the pouch. It's a pretty straight forward little bag, but Anna's sophisticated aesthetic makes it easy to imagine using it to add a little extra organization in your purse or on it's own as an over-sized clutch.

As with most bag patterns, the Caravan Tote calls for a few yards of fusible interfacing. For a bag like this that I'll want throw in the wash, I opted to use a fabric interlining instead. It took a little over one yard of duck cloth to line my bag. I sewed the canvas to the outside pieces before sewing everything together. I like the extra body and durability the duck cloth gives to the bags.

I used a denim railroad stripe and an olive canvas from Kaufman for the outside of the bag. For the inside I used yet another beautiful print from Carolyn Friedlander's new collection - I just can't get enough of it. This one is a very pale pink with bones and a hint of metallic. Come by soon, and we'll get you set up with your own new bag project!
