In this two session class, students will learn the ten basic hand embroidery stitches and explore how to experiment with them.
Turn the buttonhole stitch into a buttonhole wheel! Change the chain stitch into a flower or a line of zigzag! Create a leaf from a feather stitch! Students will use these ideas to make their own freehand designs.

Ten foundational embroidery stitches
Ways to combine and modify the ten basic stitches in freehand designs

7“-8” embroidery hoop with a screw tension
Six-strand embroidery floss in colors of your choosing
Needles: Chenille #22 and #9 embroidery needle, sharp tip
Fabric for sampling: cotton, felt, wool
These can be scraps from other projects that measure approximately 2” larger than your hoop.
Fabric for finished piece
Optional:
Thimble
Needle threader
Snips or small scissors (the Bolt studio has some you can borrow)
