Fabric marbling is equal parts experimentation and letting go. In this immersive workshop, we’ll explore the technique as a slow, hands-on process — one that rewards curiosity more than control. You’ll learn how to prepare fabric, mix and work with a methocel marbling solution, and develop a feel for how color moves and interacts on the surface.
This workshop is open to all levels; no prior experience is needed. We’ll start small, testing pigments and gestures on fabric swatches, then scale up to a larger finished piece once you’ve found a rhythm that feels right. Along the way, we’ll talk through composition, colors relationships, and balance, embracing the unpredictability that makes marbling such a satisfying technique.
You won’t need to bring supplies, but we do recommend bringing a lunch. There are lots of great restaurants in the area, but weekend wait times can be long and may reduce the amount of time you have to explore the techniques you learn in class. The studio has a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge.
This class is suitable for ages 18 and up.
Our classroom is on the second floor and is currently only accessible by stairs. We are working on a solution to make our space accessible to everyone. Thanks for your understanding and patience while we work this out. You may e-mail us at classes@boltfabricboutique.com if you have any questions about this process.
This class requires a minimum of 3 participants. The class may be subject to cancellation if the minimum enrollment is not achieved.
