Styling for Sewists: Sew Clothes You Want to Wear!

  • Bolt Fabric Boutique 4928B Northeast 29th Avenue Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Saturday August 23rd and Sunday August 24th

1pm to 5pm

$175

Have you ever spent a lot of time on a sewing project you were excited about, only to try it on and realize that it just wasn’t…you? There are so many patterns and fabrics to choose from, but it can be really difficult to determine how to pair them to make clothes that suit your style and that you’ll want to wear.

In this two-day workshop, you’ll be guided through the process that stylists use to hone personal style and discuss how personal style can inform your garment sewing plans.

Day one will cover an overview of modern styling concepts. We will discuss the intersection of styling (a pretty complicated mix of concepts both sociological and psychological) and sewing, and your instructor will bring in examples from her own sewing practice to illustrate.

Day two, we will shift from theory into practice and apply the ideas to our own sewing. Students are encouraged to bring in their real-life sewing plans and styling questions to discuss and work on with the group, or even just a Pinterest or mood board as a jumping off point.

Students will leave with the tools and confidence to design and make clothes they’ll love!

Our classroom is up one flight of stairs and is not currently wheelchair accessible. We are working on a solution to make our space accessible to everyone. Thanks for your understanding and patience while we work this out. You may e-mail us at classes@boltfabricboutique.com if you have any questions about this process. You can see our studio here.

For 18 years and up.
