Romper Revamp

—by Heather

I am so excited to tell you guys about this class that Shelly from Figgy’s has done with Craftsy. It’s called Romper Revamp and it’s really great. I was thrilled when Shelly asked me to do this review because I had been planning to make this pattern anyway and had my eye on just the fabric for it. (A luscious hemp blend knit for the body and a fine pima cotton for the yoke).

In Romper Revamp, Shelly guides you through the process of making the romper version of the Zephyr pattern. Although I made the sundress version, I watched the entire class and could see how helpful Shelly’s guidance would be in constructing the romper parts, such as the ties at the bottom and the elastic tunnel at the waist.

My favorite things about this class are:

1. Shelly’s warm and fun personality make you feel like you’re sewing right along with her.

2. The Craftsy class platform allows you to submit questions and upload photos if you’re having trouble or simply curious about something. Both Shelly and Daniela are wonderfully responsive via e-mail if you need advice on their patterns, but this allows other students to benefit from the support Shelly offers in troubleshooting a technique or clarifying the properties of different materials, for example.

3. Shelly demystifies the process of adapting the pattern to fit your child’s measurements. I have not always taken the time to do this (mostly due to laziness) and am so glad I did it this time. Lauren’s dress fits her nicely with a bit of room to grow. It’s not rocket science for sure, but a small effort, clearly demonstrated here, that yields beautiful results.

4. You will learn how to adapt this already versatile pattern to a pant length romper for fall and also to separates as a top and pants or shorts.

5. Shelly’s shout out to Bolt in her intro. Yeah!

I would highly recommend taking this class. It’s fun and is an excellent value for everything you get: the pattern, access to the class for life and Shelly’s excellent, friendly instruction which includes some nifty tips like a bobby-pin tube-turning trick and how to sew knits and wovens together. Awesome.

Right now, Craftsy is offering a special 50% discount on the class. Just click here and get ready to start learning! And don’t forget to post photos of your finished poject in the Bolt Flickr pool.
