A closer look: Diane Kimono Dress

By April

Serendipity Studios Diane Kimono Dress is such a versatile pattern. Dolman sleeves and cross over bodice is flattering on all types of body shapes and sizes.

The dress slips on over the head, no zippers to fuss with. I have seen versions of this dress where elastic is substituted for the drawstring.

Shown below is the knee length with added arm bands for sleeve length and some color contrast.

This dress is on display at the shop if you want to stop by and give it a look. The fabric is from Amy butler in lovely Voile weight cotton.

A note in my experience with these patterns is that they are designed for the average size lady.  I am tall girl and found that the knee length version of the kimono dress is much further above the knee.

I like this pattern so much I made two! The second version is the above ankle length (for me it is more of a mid calf), the drawstring is in the side seam instead of up front and center.

The scale of the pattern pieces provide a great opportunity to show off some larger scale prints.  The fabric requirements are broken down into different sections allowing one to combine a variety of different prints if desired. The options for length include tunic, knee and above ankle length. A fuller, tiered skirt version is also included in the pattern.

The Boutique Chic line of patterns from Serendipity Studios are such a gem in our pattern selection.  We carry almost all of their patterns. They are all designed with simple construction in mind, and classic style.

Great for Beginners!
