Knits for Quilting? Yeah!

By Sarah

We are big fans of Carolyn Friedlander, here at the store. We admire her unique perspective through her work as both a fabric and quilt designer. Her use of color and shape embodies a sophistication of quirky and lighthearted qualities, sure to please the modern quilter and sewist. Her designs are just down right cool, man.

Her newest fabric collection titled, Blake, has been printed (in the USA) on cotton jersey and is not only a great option for t-shirts and clothing but also for quilting, as she explains in her new quilt pattern plainly called 'Tee'. I'm sure many of you have come in contact with or heard of people making t-shirt quilts using emblem bedazzled shirts from high school or college and that require yards upon yards of iron-on interfacing to stiffen the large knit squares. Those are nothing like this new Freidlander quilt which is meant to retain the soft quality that jersey knit fabric offers.

Gina chose these lovely five prints which are nice and wide at 60". Stripe lovers may rejoice.

USA! USA! Holla!

A woven fabric is recommended for the back of the quilt, probably for ease when machine quilting. Take a peek next time you're in the shop at Carolyn Freidlander's new collection and quilt pattern. They are not up on our online shop just yet so give us a buzz if you are interested in ordering some, or all!. Happy sewing everyone.
