Level 1
This class assumes you have familiarity with the basic stitches and are ready to continue building your skill
This spring we’re excited to offer several classes with Kathie Kerler. Kathie is a graduate of the rigorous three and a half year program in design and embroidery at the City and Guilds Institute of London, where she completed both traditional and experimental work. You can see more of her work here.
Take your skill and knowledge of Blackwork to the next level in this class. There are endless possibilities! Use the stitch patterns you have learned and create a circle or floral sampler, stitch your own abstract composition, use a variety of colors other than black and combine six-strand floss with Perle Coton, or be inspired by Blackwork designs in the instructor’s reference books.
-
Basic experience with blackwork
-
Expand on the basic patterns to play with existing designs, or develop your own with Kathie’s guidance.

Perle Coton--Size 12, Black #310
Tapestry Needle--#24 or #26
Embroidery scissors or snips
Five-Inch to seven-inch embroidery hoop or other type of small frame, such as Q-Snap. You may prefer to work without a frame. But if you have one, try both ways to decide what suits you best. Personally, I like using a hoop or frame with this embroidery technique.
