This spring we’re excited to offer several classes with Kathie Kerler. Kathie is a graduate of the rigorous three and a half year program in design and embroidery at the City and Guilds Institute of London, where she completed both traditional and experimental work. You can see more of her work here.

In this class, stitchers with a basic knowledge of hand embroidery stitches will learn how they can be made more complex. For example, converting a simple running stitch into a circle and “whip” it, creating Turkey Work from the backstitch, or changing the chain stitch into lazy daisy or the square stitch.

  • Basic embroidery experience including knowledge of a variety of basic embroidery stitches

  • Modify and elevate basic stitches into more complex forms for creating your own freeform designs

    • Embroidery Hoop, 7 – 8”, with a screw tension

    • Six-strand embroidery floss in colors of your choosing
