Your Favorite Pants: Reverse Patterning

  • Bolt Fabric Boutique 4928 B Northeast 29th Avenue Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Three Sundays
September 13th, 20th, & 27th
2pm to 7pm
Level 3: You’re confident sewing simple garments and can use a commercial apparel pattern

Have you ever wanted to clone your favorite pair of pants?

In this class, you’ll learn a straightforward process to copy the exact pattern of your pants without taking them apart. Next, create a pattern block that you can use as a base to make into different styles of pants. You’ll do this all while learning the basic principles of pattern making and fitting clothes to your individual body shape.

Copy your pants, make a muslin to check for fit, and end up with an exact replica of your garment!

Taught by Annika Schindler.

    • How to thread and use a sewing machine

    • Basic sewing vocabulary

    • Sewing a straight line and maintaining a seam allowance

    • Hemming

    • Handling curves

At the end of this class, you will have a usable pattern, but this class does not cover assembling the garment! Therefore, we recommend that you are comfortable with the process of making pants before taking this class.

    • Taking a pattern from a finished pair of pants without disassembling the garment

    • Fitting a muslin to your body

    • Creating a block pattern that you can then use to fit many different styles of pants

    • Zipper or buttons appropriate to your pants closure

    • Fabric for a second muslin if you choose to make one

Paper, tools, thread, and fabric for the first mockup will be provided as part of your class fee.

This is a Level 3 class. You’ll find more information about our class levels here!
