July Mending: Patching

Got a pile of clothes in need of mending but not sure where to start? Mending is one of the best ways to make your wardrobe more sustainable and make your favorite clothes last longer.

This class will only use hand sewing techniques and is suitable for beginners—if you can thread a needle you can learn to fix your clothes!

Taught by Daniela Steiner.

  • None!

    • Learn the similarities and differences between mending stretchy and non-stretch clothes

    • More advanced stitches and techniques for specific areas

    • You may not have time to finish your whole project, but you’ll leave with the knowledge to continue at home

    • Items in need of mending, including: jeans, leggings, work shirts, tote bags, pillow cases, t-shirts, sweatshirts, thin socks

    • Fabric scraps similar in type to the garment you will be mending

    Please wash all clothing and fabric before class.

    • Hand quilting thread, Sashiko thread, or embroidery floss 

    • Hand sewing, embroidery or Sashiko needles

    • If you are working on a sock, a darning mushroom
