Machine Basics: Walk the Plank Unisex Pajama Pants

Level 0 : You’ve never touched a sewing machine before, or haven’t sewn in a long time.


Patterns for Pirates’ Walk the Plank Pajama Pants pattern is a perfect first garment sewing project for absolute beginners. Learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine, then sew your first garment in this hands-on workshop.

    • None!

    • Threading and operating a sewing machine

    • Reading a sewing pattern

    • Cutting pattern piece from fabric

    • Elastic waistband installation

    • Seam finishing methods

    • 2-3 Yards woven cotton, flannel, or similar fabric, 44” wide

    • Coordinating thread

    • 1.5” Knit elastic (length equal to high hip measurement)

    Fabric should be washed and dried before class. The amount of fabric you need will depend on the size you choose and the width of fabric. Refer to this pattern information page for details. Pattern is included, no need to print at home.
