Mending is one of the best ways to make your wardrobe more sustainable and make your favorite clothes last longer. Is your favorite sweater or pair of socks battling wear and/or moths? Don't despair! You are a creative and resourceful person. You can darn it. We will look at two different darning techniques that use a blanket stitch as their base. Pick your favorite or practice both! You might not have time to finish a whole project, but you will leave with the knowledge and enthusiasm to continue at home.

We will provide practice swatches, and we encourage people to practice on one before starting in on their own garment (particularly if it's very special to them). If they don't have anything to mend yet, they are welcome to come and learn on the practice swatches. Please note that this class teaches a (more or less) visible darn. A variety of yarn options will be provided, but if you have a specific yarn you would like to use please bring it!

This class will only use hand sewing techniques and is suitable for beginners—if you can thread a needle and make a stitch or two you can learn to fix your clothes!

This is a Level 1 class. You’ll find more information about our class levels here.
