Improv Quilting: Vacation Home

  • Bolt Fabric Boutique 4928B Northeast 29th Avenue Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

Sunday, August 2nd
9:00am to 3:00pm
Level 1: You can thread and operate a sewing machine.

Curious about improv quilting? Learn using any fabrics you bring, with no rulers, templates, kits, or measuring. You will go home with blocks that you can use to make a larger quilt, wall hanging, or whatever you choose!

From the instructor: This is a day of freedom and fun with improv quilting! We will ignore traditional sewing rules and experiment with color, size, and proportion. Learn tons of skills and techniques with no worries, just fun!

Taught by Robin O’Neil.

    • How to thread and operate a sewing machine

    • How to sew a (mostly) straight line and maintain a ¼ inch seam allowance

    • How to sew log cabin blocks with improv quilting techniques

    • Fabric scraps. We have a bin at the studio you can go through as well. More fabric, more fun!

    • Backing fabric and batting for your quilt sandwich. Cotton batting pre-cuts or left over batting from other projects work. Block sizes are up to you, and backing fabric can be whole or pieced.

    • Needle and thimble for handwork

    • Sashiko, embroidery, or quilting thread for handwork

    • Lunch
